Prolific Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan features in the new ‘India mix’ of Enrique Iglesias’s hit single “Heartbeat,” taking over from pop singer Nicole Scherzinger who co-sang the original in 2010.
Chauhan shot her video scenes in Mumbai and was edited into the video with Iglesias, they never shared on-set time together.
Enrique Iglesias has many, many teenage fans in India. He’s sold over a half a million CDs here and is one of the highest-selling international music artists in India.
“[This is] my first ever Indian collaboration with singing sensation Sunidhi Chauhan…[she] sounds amazing, and I love the whole Indian vibe to it,” said Iglesias via a recorded message at the music video release party in Mumbai.
Lyricist Rekha Nigam says, “Sunidhi has the most amazing voice — it matches any international voice, can belt out any song, and yet has got true Indian sur, and that actually inspired me while writing the song. I have written the song in a way that it goes along with the video. It talks about the new-age romance and the uncertainty around it.”
The special Indian edition of Iglesias’s album “Euphoria” features the “Heartbeat” mix and is the number two spot on Nokia’s Ovi Music Store’s international top 20 download charts.
The Latin heartthrob hopes to stop by India on his summer world tour, around July-end, Chauhan told reporters.
“There may be a performance of me and Enrique together. Talks are in process, but nothing is confirmed yet,” she says.
